Tourism in Gdańsk only makes sense when it benefits not just visitors, but also residents. That’s why we focus on balance in timing, space, and accessibility.
Increase in the temporal dispersion of tourist traffic throughout the year
Less Seasonal, More Year-Round - we know that most tourists visit Gdańsk in the summer, mainly between June and September. Residents also say that the city feels overcrowded in summer but too quiet in autumn and winter. We aim to change this by promoting Gdańsk as a great destination all year round. Sports events, cultural festivals, and conferences help extend the season. The MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) perfectly complements individual leisure tourism.
Increase in the spatial dispersion of tourist traffic
Beyond the City Centre - tourists most often visit the city centre and Gdańsk’s beaches – that’s only natural. But Gdańsk is also made up of districts like Wrzeszcz, Oliwa, Dolne Miasto, or Letnica. In public consultations, residents clearly pointed out the need to spread tourism more evenly across the city. That’s why we promote lesser-known districts, encourage the use of the Tourist Card, and support events organized outside the city centre.
Improvement in the accessibility of the tourism offer for people with special needs
Accessible to Everyone - the city’s tourism offer must be accessible to people with special needs – this is a priority for our organization. That’s why we conduct accessibility audits – people with disabilities visit attractions, check their accessibility, and share their experiences. This covers not only the evaluation of individual venues, but the entire user journey – from deciding to travel, through transportation, to the visit itself. The results? Accessibility profiles of attractions published on the GOT website, practical recommendations for staff at audited locations, and motivation for the tourism industry to introduce meaningful changes.
