Gdansk is a city where history and architecture harmonize with nature:

  • Over 180 hectares of green areas, including 21 parks
  • 23 kilometres of wide beachesIn the 2023 season
  • 3 Gdansk beaches received the Blue Flag certification: Gdansk Stogi Beach, Gdansk Sobieszewo Beach, and Marina Gdansk

Gdansk boasts an extensive cycling infrastructure, with over 860 kilometers of bike paths available. Three European cycling routes intersect here: EuroVelo 9, EuroVelo 10/13. Additionally, to enhance access to zero-emission transportation, electric bikes are available as part of the MEVO 2.0 system since the second half of 2023.

Gdansk is the second city in Poland, after Krakow, to join the GDS-Index, a benchmarking initiative that compares cities based on their sustainable development performance, with classification based on seventy criteria. This provides an opportunity for a thorough diagnosis of the current state and obtaining guidelines and proposals for improvement actions.

An important campaign in recent years in Gdansk is "Gdansk - City of Equality" which educates about treating others equally regardless of gender, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or economic situation. By organizing social campaigns, Gdansk aims not only to attract tourists but also to address the needs of residents, hence the regular surveys to gather residents' opinions regarding city development.

Speaking of tourism development, one of the priority actions of the Gdansk Tourist Organization is to disperse tourist traffic within the city - promoting attractive locations outside the city centre (shipyard areas, beaches, historic districts, the unique Sobieszewo Island), as well as extending the tourism season - presenting visitors with a year-round city offer.

With this in mind, the promotional campaign "GDAŃSK Authentically" was created. The campaign aims to present Gdansk as a destination open to anyone seeking authentic experiences and wanting to discover places known only to locals. "GDAŃSK Authentically." emphasizes the proximity of the city's extensive urban infrastructure to nature and the opportunities for leisure activities and meetings throughout the year (culinary tourism, winter swimming, workation). Following the global trend among tourists known as "coolcations," we encourage visiting cooler regions of the world, turning variable weather into an asset. In an era of record heatwaves and AI-generated images, authenticity is a unique value.
