Tourism in Gdansk goes green!

(2020-04-09)

For example used banners after a big event? No problem - give them to animal shelters or turn them into useful things like bags.

As we go more and more on-line, Gdansk has a special application - Gdansk Clean City app. It enables residents to subscribe to reminder notifications regarding the dates of waste shipments for selected properties as the waste is divided into 5 separate categories.

Heavy modernization of urban pipelines made it possible and advisable to drink water straight from the tap. And guess who survails the quality of water, except for the cutting edge technology of course? Well, you will probably find this question hard, as the correct answer is - special species of  mussels - so acute that they will close immediately upon feeling a drop in water quality.

Transportation - another great, contemporary challenge for big cities. One of the best solutions? Of course - bicycles. There is no exaggeration in calling Gdansk “the cycling capital of Poland”. If you want to really understand the city like a local, you have to do it from the saddle of a bike! Bike paths overall are over 600 km long!

The fleet of buses is modern, meeting the regulations of Euro standard and we also have a vast network of trams - the most eco-friendly transportation vehicles, powered by pure electricity and not creating traffic jams!

All of this and more gave us enough confidence to take part in European Commission contest for Green Capital of Europe 2022 and we already have the nomination! Keep your fingers crossed.
