There is a reason why the media keep showing us very evocative pictures of huge heaps of rubbish. Heaps which continue to grow. Don’t let the planet die, smothered under a mountain of refuse. Act:

●    Provide a container for recyclable and organic waste
●    Use 3 (this is the bare minimum) waste containers – organic (green), recyclable (yellow) and mixed waste (red), and ensure that their contents are properly disposed of.
●    Avoid single-use products – these include all kinds of gadgets and gifts which you know will not be used after the event is over.
●    Reward your guests for bringing their own cups, bags and reusable bottles with discounts or eligibility to participate in contests on social media.
●    Raise the price of single-use products to incentivise the choice of reusables.
●    Do not throw away food, instead partner up with food banks.
●    Mark the locations of rubbish bins on the maps you hand out to your guests (preferably electronic maps), and consider adding hints on how to dispose of problematic waste or items which will probably be used during the event (compostable utensils and cups).
●    Sell your tickets online and use electronic instead of printed documents. Where it is necessary to print something off, use ecological paper and print on both sides of the sheet.
●    Choose gifts and prizes which are experiences or consumables (like a free drink at a party, an e-voucher for a meal or electronic tickets to a local show or experience).
●    Do not include the date of your event in your printed materials, so you can use them for the next edition.
